Putt-er-ing Around The Living Room?
| If you have ever spent the afternoon hitting small, dimpled balls with long metal poles, then youve played the game of golf. And if youve ever thought, "They should really put some chairs out here on the links Im tired!" Then you should have been at the Scholl Canyon Golf and Tennis Club in Glendale, California on June 24th 1999. Because in that location, on that day, IKEA sponsored a golf "tournament" to benefit the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) in conjunction with the West Coast launch of its new furniture line: IKEA a.i.r. Families, celebrities, golf pros and amateurs had the opportunity to golf surrounded by IKEA room settings and a.i.r furniture on golf carts, the clubhouse rooftop and other unusual locations. | |

Once again we find Julian Stone as an active participant to raise money for a worthy cause. This time he was joined by his on-screen love interest, Jacklyn Zeman ("Bobbie Spencer"). Julian and Jackie participated in the tournament contests that included: hole in one, circle on the green, closest to the pin, longest drive, longest putt attempted and made, closest to the line, best and worst shot. Prior to the beginning of the tournament, Julian and Jackie spoke to the crowd. They were introduced as two of the stars of the Emmy Award-winning soap opera, General Hospital. IKEA was donating the money to AAFA in order to send children who suffer from asthma and allergies to camp this summer. |
| Julian humorously began his remarks by saying that he and Jackie were pleased to be at the IKEA Open and that Jackie "has a few things to say." Everyone laughed as he passed the microphone her way. Jackie said that they were having a lot of fun out on the golf course taking pictures with the children and sitting on the "gorgeous" furniture. "I've got my eye on a couple of things for my own kids, I have to say!" IKEAs new a.i.r collection is made up of inexpensive pieces (sofas, armchairs, loungers, footstools etc.) that have several air-filled cells that contour to the body. IKEA a.i.r furniture is safe and dust-mite free ideal for sufferers of asthma and allergies. The slipcovers can be machine-washed. | ![]() |

Julian and Jackie were also able to present a $10,000 check from IKEA to the AAFA. "The Asthma & Allergy foundation has set up wonderful things. Breath-mobiles, camps for kids, all kinds of wonderful programs for adults and for children. They're doing a fabulous job and I think it's wonderful that you are all here to support that." Her sentiments were met with applause. |
| Jackie then graciously stepped aside for Julians closing comments. "As Jackie says, this is just an excellent cause and we both have a soft spot for the childrens side of it, so it's absolutely great. So we're ready to go golf and they have some really great tournaments set up out here, and if you get a little bit tired out there, there's inflatable furniture on every hole." Everyone laughed again (and we thought only his fans knew how funny and adorable he could be!) "So have a good time." The applause was loud and enthusiastic, as was the level of participation from everyone at the event. | |
